A HORSE was rescued from a creek by firefighters.

The water rescue team from Leigh fire station and the reserved crew from Shoebury station were joined by the horse rescue crew from South Woodham Ferrers as they were called to New Road, in Great Wakering, at around 2.30pm.

The horse, a ten-year old colt, had already been stuck in the water for around two hours by the time crews arrived and had water up to its head.

However, firefighter managed to get the horse to safety in around 30 minutes.

Sub officer Ian Lighton said: “It had been stuck there for a couple of hours, we dragged it out using slings.

“It was in the creek so it must have just wandered off from the field and got stuck as the tide came in.

“A short while after we brought it in then it got up and walked round the field, so fortunately it seemed ok.”
