THE air ambulance has been scrambled to the site of a crash in Southend.

The A127 was closed, Southend-bound, between Cuckoo Corner and Fairfax Drive following an accident.

The ambulance service were called to the scene of the crash at 12.19pm.

A spokesman for the service said: "A motorcyclist has come off their bike.

"We sent an ambulance officer and ambulance crew.

"The patient was treated for a serious injury to their lower leg and a suspected fractured wrist.

"They were conscious and breathing.

"The air ambulance was also sent to the scene but ther were taken by land to Southend Hospital.

"Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

A spokeswoman for Essex Police said: "Police were called at 12.25pm today to a report of a road collision involving a motorbike on the A127, Victoria Avenue, Southend.

"Officers and the ambulance service attended and the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg and arm.

"Officers are currently making enquiries to establish the cause of the collision."

Victoria Avenue has now reopened.
