A RAIL operator is encouraging south Essex community groups to apply for part of their £150,000 charity funding pot.

The National Express Foundation, the charity arm of train operator c2c’s parent company, funds local charities, community groups and education institutions from south Essex and east London.

Groups have until Friday, March 18 to apply for a slice of the cash.

Since the foundation launched four years ago thousands of young people have benefitted from being involved in projects, with a total of £112,500 being handed out.

Anthony Vigor, chairman of the National Express Foundation, said: “We’ve been delighted to support thousands of local youngsters over the past four years, and this year we have increased the total funding pot available by 50% to £150,000.

“I would urge all local educational institutions and community groups to put in an application for funding and not miss out on this great opportunity.”

Community groups that provide positive and engaging activities for young people in deprived areas can apply for grants rants of £2,500 or £5,000.

While colleges and universities can apply for grants of £10,000 to go towards innovative bursary schemes which help students from disadvantaged backgrounds continue in further or higher education.
