VIKING culture was the topic of the day at a Southend school.
Pupils at Porters Grange Primary School dressed as the Norse warriors and engaged in a range of activities designed to educate them about Viking history.
The pupils created a wall from their shields, examined a display of weapons, learned about Viking women and their daily life, heard a story about how Thor got his hammer and played a Viking food game.
The day was completed by a Viking ship burial, famous for being set alight and floated out into open water.
