A BURNT out mobile home is partially blocking the A127 eastbound this morning.

Fire crews were called to the site, just after the Noak Bridge junction, shortly after 11pm last night.

The remains of the mobile home are still at the side of the road and partially blocking the first lane, causing congestion.

The wreckage is not expected to be recovered until after the morning rush hour.

Basildon fire station officer, David Walpole, said: "The caravan has been there for a couple of weeks, seemingly just waiting for someone to set it alight.

"Three crews attended, two from Basildon and one from Billericay.

"One crew used breathing apparatus and we used one hose reel jet to extinguish the flames in about ten minutes.

"When we arrived it was 100 per cent alight, caravans are not very well build so it wouldn't have taken long for it to go up.

"The cause of the fire is not known but an ambulance crew reportedly saw a car leaving the scene quite quickly before the fire started so it is looking like it was maybe deliberate."
