PASSENGERS on the c2c line are now safer, thanks to a new CCTV centre opened in Romford.

The purpose-built CCTV suite, which will be manned around the clock, provides enhanced real-time coverage from every c2c station.

Operators will be able to view more than 50 of the networks 1,100 cameras on the c2c route at any one time, allowing users to observe any reported suspicious activity and provide live information to c2c’s security teams and the British Transport Police.

Later this year the centre will also be linked to more than 400 more cameras onboard c2c trains and the train operators’ network of electronic passenger help points at every station.

C2c security and revenue protection manager, Iain Palmer, said: “We know how important it is that our passengers feel safe when using c2c, and this new CCTV centre will transform the way we can provide that security.

“Our operators have live pictures from over 1,100 cameras at their fingertips, and we can now provide more evidence to the British Transport Police faster than ever.

“Last year overall crime levels fell on c2c, and we hope that this new technology will help cut more crime in future – meaning our customers can feel safe and secure on their journeys.”
