A man was arrested following a police chase after a police dog sniffed him out hiding under a lorry.
The pursuit began when officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen Volkswagen Polo in Gainsborough Avenue, Tilbury at 12.50am today.
However the car failed to stop and made off towards East Tilbury.
The police helicopter was scrambled to help and the car was pursued through Stanford-le-Hope, Horndon, Dunton, Little Burstead and Noak Bridge before it was found unoccupied in Miles Gray Road, Basildon at around 1.20am.
Police dog Wilson was called in to search the area and discovered a man hiding under a lorry parked in the road.
A 47-year-old man from Grays was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving whilst unfit through drink and or drugs and failing to stop when directed.
A 21-year-old man from Tilbury was also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop when directed.
Both men are currently in custody where they will be questioned.
