GET ready for purring of the Scooters near the seafront, the northern soul and mod beats filling the air, the vintage market stalls, the sharply dressed mods out on parade... it can all only mean one thing... the annual Almost Grown Weekender is coming up.

As has been the tradition now for four years, the weekender takes place across various venues, from Friday May 6 until Sunday May 8.

It started as a special event put on by Almost Grown, a club night which has now been running for 20 years.

The dancing starts at Saks Underground, Clifftown Road, Southend, with an opening party on the Friday night, from 9pm until 2am. Expect various DJs for £5 on the door.

From 11am until 4pm on the Saturday, you to look for some threads for more partying, at the vintage market held in the Esplanade, on Western Esplanade, Southend seafront.

Saturday night sees two floors of northern soul and ska being played by various DJs, with live music from the Beatniks. It takes place at the Conservative Club, Clarence Street, Southend, from 9pm until 3am. Admission is £10 on the door.

If you've still got it in you, Lazy Sunday then takes place at the Railway Hotel, from 12 noon until late, with free entry, where various DJs are invited to spin vinyl classics of northern soul and more. Admission is free.

If you want to save yourself a couple of quid, you can get a whole weekend ticket in advance, which admits you to everything, by emailing one of the promoters, Aaron Bunch at aaron.almostgrown@gmail.com
