HORSE lovers had the chance to experience a taste of what its like to have their own pony at a special stable open day.

Pony Pals, which is based in Browns Avenue in Wickford, flung open its stable doors to the public for the weekend and was inundated with calls from pony mad families wanting to have a go at riding and caring for the animals.

The busy weekend got underway with children and adults enjoying 30 minute or one hour rides at the stables, which also offers regular riding lessons, birthday parties and other experiences.

Horses and ponies of all shapes and sizes took part in the fun, meaning everyone got a turn to take up the reins and have a ride.

As well as walking around the riding school, some budding riders got to give simple gymkhana games a try and a few even got to have a go at jumping small jumps.

Guests were also able to help out around the stable yard by grooming and bathing the horses after their busy day of riding lessons.
