SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has confirmed chief executive Steve Kavanagh is to join Millwall.

Kavanagh – who has been with the Shrimpers since October 2012 – will replace Andy Ambler at the Lions.

But Martin revealed it had not yet been decided when Kavanagh would be leaving Roots Hall.

“Steve has a six month notice period in his contract so we’re not too sure when he’s going to be making the move just yet,” said Martin.

“I don’t think Andy is leaving Millwall until the end of September so there’s no immediate rush and we obviously need to be able to find a replacement.

“We will need to advertise the position and interview for it as well but I’m not sure if that will all be concluded by the end of the month.

“Steve will remain committed to us while he’s still here.

“He didn’t apply for the Millwall job he was approached about it by Andy but we wish him all the very best with them.”
