THESE are the scenes from Southend’s big Christmas lights switch on.
Thousands of people young and old descended on the town centre on Saturday to enjoy a whole day packed full of festive activities.
Kicking off with the Robinson Crusoe trail, where the High Street came alive with shanty dancers and tribesmen, the day culminated in a fireworks finale on Southend seafront.
A “snow” machine added some seasonal delight in the High Street, covering the crowd in white foam.
Southend is now sparkling with festive lights after Southend mayor Judith McMahon and mascot Ryan the Lion did the seasonal honours and turned on the Christmas lights.
