A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a Polish man which sent shockwaves through Britain's migrant community.
The death of 40-year-old Arkadiuz Jozwik came shortly after the UK's Brexit vote in June and was among a number of incidents which were feared to be racially-motivated.
The factory worker, known as Arek by his friends and family, was punched to the ground at about 11.35pm on Saturday, August 27 in The Stow area of Harlow.
He had been buying pizza with a friend when he was set upon by around 20 teenagers.
It was claimed at the time that he had been attacked for speaking Polish.
Arek was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and was later transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where he died from his injuries on Monday evening, August 29.
A 15-year-old boy from Harlow has now been charged with his manslaughter.
The teenager cannot be named for legal reasons.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Danny Stoten, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has now authorised Essex Police to charge a teenager with manslaughter in connection with the death of Mr Jozwik.
"He is due to appear at Chelmsford Youth Court on January 6, 2017."
