A POPULAR seafront lagoon is being given a spring clean this week in preparation for the Easter holidays.

Ann Holland, Councillor for Tourism and the Economy, joined Marc Miller, Director of Adventure Island, along with Stockvale employees, to remove any litter and weed from the beach and bathing waters yesterday morning.

Work has just completed on the construction of attractive changing room and toilet facilities, built to resemble beach huts, at the lagoon.

Mrs Holland said: “Since its launch last summer, the seafront lagoon has proven to be a real hit among visitors and local families, providing them with facilities to take the children for a swim in the sea, even when the tide is out.

“We want to make sure it looks at its best for the expected influx of visitors this weekend and I would like to thank all those who helped with the clean-up.”

Mr Miller added: “We are very much looking forward to a bumper Easter here in Southend, especially with the warm dry weather that is being forecast, which always encourages more visitors to come to see us.

“We’ve been working in partnership with the council to ensure the seafront is looking its best ready to receive them.

“The new lagoon is sure to be a highlight for visitors and we are really pleased that its new toilet facilities – which have been much needed along the seafront for a long time – will be opening in time for the holiday.”
