IN light of the forthcoming celebrations of the 125th Anniversary of Southend, a new outfit has been created for the town crier.

The new livery for the town crier of Southend was designed and made by Ron Briggs - whose main studio is in North London.

He has previously made costumes for impressive West End Stage productions.

They include Les Miserables, Gone with the Wind, Wicked, We will Rock You, The Far Pavilions, Holiday on Ice, Saturday Night Fever and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The new town crier’s livery will be worn by Keith Davidson, who was selected at the end of last year to be the town crier. He will read a proclamation of Southend’s 125th Anniversary, which the Echo is proud media partners for.

It will be followed by a humble request for city status on the steps of 10 Downing Street on Tuesday, May 2 at 10am.

This will coincide with the final finish of the monumental marathon of the charity fundraising stilt walkers, who will be stilt walking from Southend non-stop.

The town crier leads events through the year to mark the 125th celebrations, and Southend being the Alternative City of Culture.
