POLICE have evacuated homes in Shoebury after an artillery shell and explosives were found.
The military’s explosive ordnance disposal unit have been called in to make an assessment of the devices which were found at an address in Watson Close, Shoeburyness.
Officers set up the cordon just before 2pm today, following the discovery of an artillery shell and what is believed to be a small number of old explosive devices.
A number of houses have been evacuated to ensure residents’ safety and the road closed.
Police thanked members of the public are thanked for their patience and requested people avoid the immediate area while an assessment of the devices is carried out.
