THOUSANDS of people packed out Corfe Mullen today as the annual carnival procession wound its way around the town's streets.

The street procession, including floats, bands, entertainers and vintage vehicles, got underway at 1pm.

Around 300 young people also took part in the procession , which ended at the Recreation Ground, Bradbury View Road, where today’s events were scheduled.

An event spokesman said: "There is a wide variety of entertainment and fun activities for all age groups taking place throughout the day, and many of the children's activities are available free or at reduced cost.

"There is plenty to entertain the adults too, with over 50 stalls and static displays ranging from woodcraft skills to vintage vehicles to local community groups selling a wide range of products."

This year's carnival supported the Corfe Mullen Trust, and the Green Island Holiday Trust.

The Corfe Mullen Trust, a registered charity, exists to continue the work of the town's former youth and community centre, to provide Corfe Mullen's young people with a safe place to meet.

Meanwhile, the Green Holiday Trust is an organisation providing holidays for people with disabilities.

The carnival spokesman explained: "The trust was founded in 1991 on Green Island in Poole Harbour from where it has taken its name.

"In 2005 the trustees decided to relocate the holidays to Holton Lee which has fully accessible facilities for people with disabilities.

"This is a 350 acre estate on the edge of Poole Harbour."
