A Boa Constrictor was found on the tracks by railway staff at Southend Victoria station.
The snake which was found at platform four by staff yesterday afternoon at around 2.30 was picked up by Paul Triggs, who was at the station at the time.
The snake was found to be very dehydrated after spending hours laying on the tracks, dried out from the seaside sun.
It appeared very distressed and even attempted to strike at Paul while he was lifting the snake into a cardboard box.
It was taken to South Essex Wildlife Hospital where it was found the snake had a serious infection in its mouth.
British Transport Police believe the Boa Constrictor is still at the hospital receiving treatment.
A representative for British Transport Police said: "We hope the snake can make a speedy recovery."
