ELDERLY people in Basildon were treated to a day of tea, biscuits and bingo courtesy of Lloyds Cardnet.

The event took place at the George Hurd Activity Centre in Basildon and all the food and and raffle prizes were provided by Lloyds through money that they raised with events.

The day of tea and bingo allowed elderly people to enjoy themselves whilst making friends.

Lloyds Cardnet held the event in conjunction with Age Matters Basildon, who are based at the activity centre.

Kelly Copping, finance manager at the George Hurd Activity Centre organised the event. She said: “It all went really, really well.

“A lot of people there were from Lloyds and Age Matters.”

Ms Copping added: “We have had a lot of good feedback from people who came, saying that they really enjoyed the event and meeting new people.

“The bingo was also really fun.

The caller made it quite fun and exciting and he was using all the old phrases, like two little ducks for 22.”

Age Matters is a charity which evaluates the needs of elderly people.

One major issue amongst retired people is loneliness and events like the tea and bingo day help them meet new people, forge friendships and consequently reduce isolation.
