A motorbike crashed into two cars leaving one person with life-changing injuries.
Fire crews were called to Lovelace Road, Southend, at 7.48pm last night to put out the fire.
The fire was extinguished by 8.05pm.
Essex Police Superintendent Saunders commented on Twitter: "On scene at a serious RTC tonight which sadly has left life changing injuries, exceptional work by all emergency services."
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “The East of England Ambulance Service Trust was called to a road traffic collision on Southchurch Road in Southend at 7.48pm yesterday.
"An ambulance crew, an ambulance officer, two rapid response vehicles and the East Anglian Air Ambulance attended and treated a man with serious leg injuries.
He was sedated at the scene and flown to Addenbrookes Hospital in a serious condition.”
