Essex Local Optical Committee attended a forward-thinking event looking to aid the employment of those with disabilities.
Hosted by Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris, the event focussed on the Disability Confident scheme, which helps businesses employ disabled people and make the most of their skills.
This government initiative asks for businesses to sign up and show their support.
Businesses can sign up and progress through three levels of activity in the scheme, each one demonstrating an increased support for those with disabilities in the work place.
Essex LOC chairman, Stuart Humfrey said: “Signing up to the first level of the Disability Confident initiative shows an inclusive, forward thinking attitude that reflects well on both practitioner and practice.
“I would strongly urge practices to investigate and commit.”
