An adventure park featuring a zip wire, climbing walls and trampolines could be on its way to a country park.

Braintree Council, Essex County Council and representatives for David Lloyd have met to discuss plans for creating an activity centre at Great Notley Country Park.

The parkland is managed by Essex County Council.

Earlier this year former tennis star Mr Lloyd announced his plans to create a string of adventure parks across the UK.

Each is set to be a three acre site with activities ranging from trampolines and soft play for under-fives to zip wires, climbing walls and outdoor activities such as crazy golf.

It is thought the park would consist of one big building, which would create an additional 85 jobs around the Braintree district.

Park officials discussed the strengths and opportunities with the Braintree Council and Essex County Council.

The issues for consideration included the impact and potential cost of relocating the grass pitches and the significant impact on the football clubs which use them.

David Lloyd is looking to open adventure parks at 12 locations by 2021 and Great Notley had been identified as an ideal location to consider developing such a park.

Planning approval would be needed for the large building and car parking for the facility would be free.

Braintree Council said it would continue the dialogue with David Lloyd to finalise a best offer.

If agreed the offer would be finalised by the end of January 2018.

A working group to develop a business case would be set up by April 30 next year.

A Braintree Council spokesman said: “We have had some informal discussions with Es- sex County Council, which manages and op- erates Great Notley Country Park, and David Lloyd about a potential adventure park activity located at the park.

“The concept is being considered by all parties and formal discussions are yet to commence.” It is not known how much it could cost to build the facility.

A spokesman for Essex County Council said: “Concepts are at very early stages in discus- sion at the moment however, we will be sure to keep our visitors and members of the public informed if this develops.”
