Olympic gold medalist Max Whitlock celebrated his win of the prestigious Active Essex Sports Awards.

The winners were announced on Tuesday night at a ceremony at Chelmsford City Racecourse.

Max, who trains at Basildon Sporting Village, retained his pommel horse title at the 2017 World Championships. He said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for me to be the Active Essex Sports Personality of the Year. I means a lot to have support and recognition from my home town and across the county. Huge congratulations to all the winners at this year’s Active Essex Sports Awards. It is so important to celebrate all aspects of sport and physical activity across our county.”
