A POPULAR bakery which will move to Halstead has announced an opening date.

Weston's Bakery. in Sudbury, will open a third shop in Halstead High Street, creating ten new jobs.

The bakery will open in the old jewellery shop unit, opposite the Costa Coffee shop and near the bus stop.

Mr Patrick Weston owns the three Weston's bakeries.

His Father started the Weston's brand in Hackney, London, before he took over in 1987.

He said: "We have three branches, one in Sudbury, one in Colchester, and now one in Halstead.

"We have always loved Halstead since it is very similar in many ways to Sudbury where our main shop and bakery is.

"Halstead is a good old fashioned town with lovely, friendly people.

"We aim to offer Halstead wonderful bread including spelt and gluten free.

"We bake a whole range of cakes and morning goods, donuts to die for, as well as fruit, cheese, plain and cherry scones."

The shop will be a traditional bakery using tried and tested recipes.

In September, Mr Weston put in an offer for Doughs Bakery, in Halstead, which was refused.

Mr Weston said: "Everything is baked in the old traditional way, the same as my dad did way back in the 1930s.

"We originally said we should be open in November, but this has had to be moved back to mid-January to get the decor ready.

"We're installing a traditional hand painted shop front.

"We are really looking forward to opening in Halstead around mid January, but stay tuned for an official date."
