FESTIVE cheer was in full swing across south Essex this Christmas period.
Among the many events taking place, Applause, a 14-year-old tiny white American miniature horse, trotted to Southend hospital’s Windsor and Princess Anne wards to give therapy to some of the patients.
Players from Billericay Football Club were on hand to bring smiles to Basildon Hospital after players visited with gifts for children in the hospital over Christmas.
The Essex Chambers of Commerce also hosted the Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services annual Christmas lunch.
More than 160 people who volunteer for or use the befriending service attended the lunch at the Oysterfleet Hotel on Canvey.
Additionally, Canvey Youth Project, on Long Road, was thrilled by donations of food, money and gift vouchers by Smallgains Social Club.
The King Edmund School in Rochford also hosted its annual OAP Christmas party.
More than 50 guests came from the surrounding care homes and they enjoyed afternoon tea served by students and a glass of sherry served by staff.
