HAVING stood in the town since the 1880s, Southend’s pier must have been in an endless amount of photographs from tourists and residents alike.

Given its unique history, its claim to fame as the longest pleasure pier in the world and the stunning views from the end, this is hardly surprising.

As Sir John Betjeman once said, “the Pier is Southend, Southend is the Pier”.

Here, Echo’s Camera Club members share their best shots of the iconic landmark.

The group now has more than 500 members and an Instagram account has also been set up.

Scott Hornsby, digital and social media editor at the Echo, said: “We have been thrilled by how quickly the Camera Club has shown.

“As these photos show, we have some fantastic, highly talented photographers in south Essex and we are delighted to be able to show off some of their pictures.

“We always welcome new members and are looking for volunteers to take over our new Instagram account for a week.

“They will be free to post their photos from around the area and we are very excited to see the results.”
