HALF term is here again, so what to do with the kids next week?
As usual there are plenty of events happening around south Essex to keep everyone entertained.
At the RHS Hyde Hall Gardens near Rettendon, ‘mud and machines’ will be among special running all week. Think of it as an excuse to have some fun and get your hands dirty with a variety of activities, whatever the weather. All week you can enjoy splash puddles, vintage tractors and a garden trail. There’s also weekday art craft sessions, storytelling on Tuesday and the Great British Mud Pie Off on Friday. prices for events vary- visit www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/hyde-hall
On Tuesday, February 13, youngsters can get fired up at Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury. Find out how the fort's historic 38 ton gun was fired, make your own cannon, build a fort and see if you can shoot it down using your cannon. Pre-booking is essential and make sure you come dressed for the outdoors. Tickets cost £5. For more details visit Thurrock.gov.uk/events
On Thursday there's the chance to 'Plant Labels for Mr. McGregor' at Langdon Nature Reserve. The beauty spot, off Lower Dunton Road, Laindon is hosting a drop in event from 1pm-4pm where families can follow the Peter Rabbit Trail and visit the garden areas, then go inside to make some animal plant labels to take home. Accompanied children only. £3 per child.
Those who like more cuddly fun can head along to Prittlewell Priory where a Teddy Bear Hunt event is being held all week from Tuesday to Sunday.
Teddy bears have taken over the Priory -they're hiding on the shelves, by the windows and even on the roof beams. Explore the Priory and see where the Teddies are hidden. There will also be a selection of teddy bear stories in the visitor centre at Prittlewell Priory at 11am on Friday February 16. Find out more by visiting www.southendmuseums.co.uk
