PRIMARY school children were treated to an afternoon of getting messy and creative as they hosted their very own version of the Great British Bake Off.

The year two pupils from Cherry Tree Primary School, in Church Road, Basildon, learned how to bake their own sweet and savoury rolls at the school’s afternoon baking event.

Dozens of little star bakers mixed the dough for their rolls themselves, kneaded them, then added their special ingredients into the mix, ready for baking.

The young contestants for the Cherry Tree Bake Off were helped through the event by the school’s teaching staff, who ensured all the children were wearing hair nets, and that not too much mess was made.

Staff were also on hand to make sure there were no soggy bottoms – a faux pas in the TV show – for any of the children’s creations.

The school has had a fun-packed week in the lead up to the half term holidays.

Cherry Tree’s year five pupils got dressed up in the traditional clothing of the ancient Greeks.

The non-uniform day was part of a history module the pupils have been taking to learn about one of the world’s oldest civilisations.

Children dressed up as traditional Greek soldiers, politicians and princes and princesses as they spent the day learning all about the myths and legends of ancient Greece more than 2,000 years ago.
