The first ever Chelmsford Restaurant Festival has begun.

The 10-day event is the first of its kind to be held in the city and is expected to attract diners from across Essex and further afield.

At least 20 restaurants will be taking part in the event which will see them offer an exclusive ‘Festival Menu’ throughout the duration of the event, which runs until March 10. The menus will be a set price, with restaurants providing either a two or three course option.

The festival will also see a number of 'restaurant experiences' taking place such a food book launch by TV chef Jose Pizarro at the Galvin Green man, a Butchery Masterclass at Chop Bloc in Springfield Rad, a Comedy Night at Acanteen, a live jazz with cheese and wine speakeasy at the Wine Cellar and even a screening of the 2000 film Chocolat starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, which will be shown this Saturday (March 3) at the Two Brewers.

A series of afternoon teas at the County Hotel, eating contests and comedy nights are also part of the menu.

Other venues taking part include Las Iguanas, Live Dosa, The Castle, Banana Tree, Grand Central, Giraffe, Russell’s, The Blue Strawberry, Bridge Street Lounge & Grill, Bourgee, The Hare and more.
