A NEW £3.6 million boutique restaurant is set to open tomorrow in a building which was left dilapidated for more than two years.

Pavilion, which has a heated riverside dining terrace, private dining rooms and a Pan Pacific menu, has replaced the old River Lodge near Middlebrough.

It was inspired by owner Ash Afzalnia’s travels to the Asian, Australian and South American regions.

Mr Afzalnia’s Elysium Group also runs Mimosa, Hudson and Qube.

Mr Afzalnia said: “The Pavilion project has been almost three years in the making and we have invested millions of pounds in designing and building a truly unique venue.

“Pavilion offers something very different in terms of its interior design and operational concept, which focuses heavily on quality produce and guest experience.”

Pavilion has an open plan kitchen with charcoal Robata grill, and a seafood ‘raw bar’, plus a lounge area and glass wine cellar with more 200 wines.

The Pan Pacific menu is based on a sharing concept including Sushi, Sashimi, Ceviche and oysters, as well as Miso-glazed black Cod, Wagyu beef sliders and Yakitori chicken skewers from the Robata grill.

Individual dishes will include Penang monkfish curry, braised beef short rib and rock shrimp tempura with Kimchee mayo.

Head chef Yalcin Sunner will bring a wealth of experience, while general manager Jack Taylor has previously managed the group’s Mimosa restaurant.

Pavilion has a team of 30 full-time staff.

It will be open from 7.30am Monday to Friday and 9am at weekends, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner menus.
