A MAN has spoken out about being violently robbed at Rochford train station.

The victim, 28, was set upon by two men.

The man, who has asked to remain anonymous, was travelling home from Southend Airport after his flight to Milan had been severely delayed.

He said: “I actually remember very little about the incident itself because I was so concussed. It all seems like such a blur, but it was a terrifying thing to happen more or less out of the blue.

“I don’t think it was a planned attack because they didn’t even take anything from my pockets.

“But they have left me covered in cuts and bruises and, looking back, really quite shaken up although I don’t think that has sunken in until now.

“The things they have stolen, for example my work laptop, are basically worthless to anybody unless they are stripped for parts and sold like that, so it makes the completely random nature of it all seem even more pointless.

“It would just be good to find out more about what actually happened and why - anything that could lead to the people responsible being prosecuted and stop them from doing anything similar in the future.

“The response and support I’ve had from people, friends, family, colleagues, and even people just reaching out after hearing about what happened in the wake of what happened has been a huge comfort.”

Anyone who was at the train station at the time of the incident and saw the robbery taking place at about 11pm on Friday, June 1, is asked to contact British Transport Police immediately by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number 1800039749.

Alternatively, any witnesses or those with information or details can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Although the incidents are not being linked at this stage, British Transport Police are renewing appeals for information and witnesses after another robbery took place in Prittlewell earlier in the month.

Officers are currently searching for two men in connection with the incident, which took place on Saturday, May 5 at about 4.50am.

A passenger was approached by two men, who demanded money and threatened him with violence if he did not co-operate. He was also surrounded by three other men. Officers have made patrols on the service since the incident.
