A pizza delivery driver was left needing staples to his head after teenagers targeted his car with bricks and belts.

A group of around ten youths launched the attack on a Dominoes Pizza delivery driver just after 5pm in Hatley Gardens, Benfleet, close to the London Road Tarpots Dominos store.

Dashcam footage from the driver’s car during the incident on Tuesday shows the car obstructed by a group of about ten yobs.

The driver beeps his horn, the group begin attacking the car, and then the sounds of a violent altercation can be heard, as well as glimpses of boys with bricks and a belt.

The driver was taken to hospital after suffering a cut to the head.

The boys have all been banned from the store after the attack, with businesses around the store speaking out about issues with antisocial behaviour in the area.

A friend of the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “The response the police had after the dashcam footage went up was staggering, there are clearly a lot of people from Benfleet who have had run-ins with these thugs before and want things to change.

“The police told us they had not seen so many responses in a long time - it’s important that those responsible are held to account.”

Terry Brooks, sales manager at Bathroom Boutique opposite Dominoes Pizza, said: “They are there everyday, I’ve had to tell them a number of times to get out after they’ve run in and out of the store.

“Every business along here knows of them, they are constantly hanging around with drink or drugs, and I have seen them a few times trying to set fire to bins in the car park.

“I have seen police around to speak to them, but not for a while - it’s really worrying to hear about this happening so close by.”

Peter Basset, who works at Tarpots Convenience just a few shop down from Dominos, said: “Incidents like this do make you question your safety that little bit more. Seeing large groups standing around outside a shop, whatever their age, is always going to be intimidating.

“They are known to hang around outside, and a few months ago there was a temporary curfew put on which I think shows that the problem is being taken seriously.”

Essex Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident. Dominos Pizza did not respond to a request for comment.
