Fire crews were called to a workshop after reports that it was filled with smoke.
It took place in Towerfield Road, Shoebury yesterday at 8.28pm.
On arrival firefighters reported that the building was 75 per cent smoke logged.
Crew Manager Mark Blakebrough, Southend Fire Station, said: “The workshop contained an industrial paint drying oven, which had been left on, and as the temperature went up it began producing large amounts of smoke.
"Our crews did a brilliant job in quickly determining the cause of the smoke, isolating the oven and ventilating the building."
The building has suffered some smoke damage.
