The first drivers have been convicted following this summer’s anti-drink and drug driving campaign.

Essex Police's campaign ran from Thursday, June 14 and finished on Sunday, July 15 and highlighted how alcohol and drugs can impair your reactions when driving.

The consequences of this can be fatal.

Those convicted are:

John McCarthy, 33, of Oak Lane, Billericay

- Arrested a 2.38am on June 15 on the A127;

- Jailed for four months and disqualified for six years for drink driving;

- Jailed for four months (to run concurrently) and driving licence endorsed for driving while disqualified;

- Told to pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge and driving licence endorsed for driving without insurance.

Zaheer Hussain, 22, of St Leonards Street, London E3

- Arrested at 2.5am on June 16 in Victoria Avenue, Southend;

- Disqualified for 12 months, fined £310 and ordered to pay £85 costs for drink driving;

- Driving licence endorsed for driving with no insurance.

Shane Podd, 31, of Silver Hill, Hintlesham, Suffolk

- Arrested at 8.18am on June 16 on A12, Stanway;

- Disqualified for 24 months, fined £700 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £70 victim surcharge for failing to provide a specimen.

Jessica Grater, 27, of London Road, Southend

- Arrested at 5.25am on June 17 at Southend Hospital;

- Disqualified for three years, ordered to carry out 60 hours unpaid work, and told to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge for drink driving.

Lorraine O’Connell, 50, of Church Road, Benfleet

- Arrested at 11.25pm on June 17 in Church Road Hadleigh;

- Disqualified for 24 months, ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work, and told to pay £85 costs and a £85 victim surcharge for drink driving.

Daniel Fisher, 43, of Maple Avenue, Leigh-on-Sea

- Arrested at 12.09am on June 19 in Priory Crescent, Southend;

- Disqualified for 20 months, fined £280 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge for drink driving.

Schiopu Ionut-Gabriel, 26, of Navigation Road, Chelmsford

- Arrested at 3.05am on June 20 in Llewellyn Close, Chelmsford;

- Disqualified for 18 months, fined £185 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge for drink driving;

- Driving licence endorsed for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Anton Alexandroviei, 46, of no fixed address

- Arrested at 4.09am on June 20 in Stifford Hill, South Ockendon;

- Sentenced to 14 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, disqualified for 34 months, ordered to carry out 100 hours unpaid work, and told to pay £85 costs and £115 victim surcharge for failing to provide a specimen.
