GET ready for what promises to be a late night sizzling show of "quick witted satire, fantasy and comedy, skits and strips and all that’s in-between" when Burlesque Equinox comes back to town.
Hosted by Lady Blue Phoenix and featuring Dolly Trolley; Rubyyy Jones; Luke Warm; The Celestials; Valerie Savage; Dickie Dalliance; Redd Peaches; Yippee IKay; Twinkle Pink; Ma Sue; Onyx Fatale and Vince Moon, this show will be performing in the gothic setting of the Clifftown Theatre, in Nelson Street, Southend.
It takes place on Friday, July 20, at 8pm.
Lady Blue Phoenix and her bawdy Burlesque brothers and sisters say they will take you on a "sequin spangled journey into the dazzling delights of Burlesque performance".
Having trained as a Burlesque performer for the past eight years, Lady Blue Phoenix hopes to bring a new audience to the Burlesque fold with this eclectic mix of home grown and international performers, each with their own unique style, quick wit and daring displays of audacity.
Dismissed by many as seedy and debauched, Burlesque performance became popular in Europe, the US, and Canada in the late 1840s. Quickly becoming popular amongst the wealthy within Europe, this centuries old art form quickly took hold as a wonderfully comic alternative to the overtly serious dramas of the traditional playhouses and offered an often searing indictment of society with a quirky, comic, and of course, scantily clad, twist!
