A neighbour told how the boy of "primary school age" was being looked after while his mother was out at work when he was fatally injured.

A young boy sadly died yesterday morning after a huge police and paramedic presence flooded Rochford Garden Way, Rochford.

At around 10am, a body was seen being carried out the front door of the property, where police and the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that the boy, aged under ten had sadly died of his injuries.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: "All I heard was that the kids were looked after by someone else while the mum was at work.

"Everyone just knows of them, I've never been round for a coffee or chatted to them outside or anything like that.

"We've got a good rapport with a lot of people on the street, we've lived here for 27 years, we know everybody."

The property where the boy is understood to have lived was cordoned off throughout Monday afternoon with two police officers standing guard.

The cause of his death is currently unknown.

A post mortem is due to be carried out when a cause of death will be released.
