SWEEPING lawns, hydrangeas and roses adorn the gardens of South Shoebury Hall but it is the glorious display of agapanthus which always steal the show.

Michael Dedman and his wife Caroline will be opening their acre garden to the public this Sunday for their annual summer opening.

The beautiful grounds and packed herbaceous borders always make for a good turnout and with around 200 varieties of agapanthus, one of the largest collections in Essex, visitors will see the vast colour range from the traditional blue and purple to black and white varieties.

The couple have been opening their gardens as part of the National Gardening Scheme for the past 11 years. They have raised more than £30,000 for various charities, including Marie Curie, Motor Neurone Disease, Macmillan Cancer Care, Multiple Sclerosis and many others.

Last July’s event raised more than £3,000 and their spring event in April this year raised £1,500 so Michael hopes this Sunday’s event raises further vital funds.
