A man in his twenties was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon after being injured with a glass bottle in Leigh.

The incident took place shortly before 5pm yesterday in High Street, Old Leigh, close to The Peterboat, with an air ambulance landing nearby at 5.30pm in Marine Parade.

Eyewitness reports from the scene indicate that there was an argument between two men prior to the attack.

The victim was transported to hospital via air ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, and Essex Police have since launched an appeal for more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A spokesman from The Peterboat said: "We can confirm that an incident took place at the sea wall in Old Leigh early this evening - this did not take place on The Peterboat premises.

"Local emergency services and air ambulance crews were quickly in attendance.

"An area has been cordoned off along the sea wall adjacent to The Peterboat whilst police investigate the incident."

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "We were called with reports that a man had been injured on High Street, Leigh-on-sea, shortly before 5pm, Friday, July 27.

"Officers and paramedics attended and a man in his 20s was taken to hospital by air ambulance with non-life threatening injuries, believed to be caused by a glass bottle.

"Enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident."
