A MAN has been charged with a host of offences after a police chase which ended in a nasty crash.

Officers ordered a car to stop in Westcliff, but it allegedly failed to do so.

Police then chased the car until it collided with another car at the junction with Hamlet Court Road and Canewdon Road.

Thankfully no-one was injured in the incident.

Many residents saw the crash - and subsequent drama at the junction.

Lara Ray, 26, of Westcliff, said: “I heard this going on from my room and thought it was a police chase.

“The poor couple in the other car - glad they are unharmed.”

Mark Flewitt, councillor for protection, said people will be pleased to see the police taking assertive action.

He said: “There is always danger with a police car chase, but they would not have to chase the people if they stopped for the police.”

Mitchell Rudkin, 44, of Ness Road, Shoeburyness has been charged with failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, failing to provide a specimen, obstruction of a police officer, and common assault.

He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on September 3.

A 19 year-old man who was also arrested has been released without charge.
