A little Disney magic was sprinkled over Basildon Hospital when some beloved characters came to visit patients and staff.

Mickey, Minnie and Queen Elsa from Frozen were invited along to Basildon Hospital by the MCA Trust, a charity that supports children with brain-related cancers.

The MCA Trust is currently visiting local hospitals and handing out travel sized toothbrush sets to raise awareness of the charity.

Suzanne Reynolds, matron for children’s, said: “The MCA Trust has already given us a significant amount of money to refurbish one of our oncology rooms and towards the revamp of the children’s playroom.

“We’re so grateful for their support and seeing the children’s faces today as they spotted Mickey, Minnie and Elsa was just magical.”

The MCA trust was set up in memory of Michael Charles Adams, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010 and passed away soon after. While receiving treatment, he said he wanted to make a difference for local children who were suffering as he was. He didn’t have time to fulfil his wish, but his family and friends set up the MCA Trust in his name. Earlier this year, the charity also funded the renovation of the children’s oncology room, where treatments such as chemotherapy are given to young patients.

Katie Heaphy, head of marketing at MCA Trust, said: “Being here at Basildon Hospital has bought a smile to everyone’s faces. We were able to hand out our MCA toothbrush and toothpaste packs to lots of children and remind them about brushing their teeth twice a day, even when staying in hospital.

“Seeing their faces light up when they saw Mickey, Minnie Mouse and Elsa was wonderful. To be able to make a difference to children in hospital is so important to all of us at the MCA Trust. Thank you also to all the staff who helped organise our visit.”
