A DRIVER fled a burning vehicle after a crash forced it to flip.

The grey car has been left burned out beyond recognition after it was involved in a crash in Ashingdon Road, Rochford.

A pair of fire crews from Rochford Fire Station attended to the incident after the car fire was reported, at around 11.45pm.

They found the vehicle at the side of the road, flipped on its side with the body work seriously damaged.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The driver had already left the vehicle before anybody had arrived at the scene of the incident.

“Officers carried out a search of the area, however, they were unable to find anybody who may be connected to the incident.”

The police spokesman also confirmed that no arrests were carried out following the incident.

They also added that there were no injuries recorded.

The car appeared to have hit a pole in front of where it was laid, before it rolled almost into a hedge beside the road.

The fire is believed to have broken out after the car flipped, and the interior of the car had been completely destroyed as a result of the blaze.

The station reported that no other vehicles had been involved in the incident.

The vehicle was still alight when the crews arrived in Ashingdon Road.

They used breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze which had covered the whole of the vehicle.

Two hose reel jets were also used by the crews in order to fully extinguish the fire.

It took around 45 minutes for the officers to calm the fire, leaving the entirety of the vehicle destroyed.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to reports of a vehicle fire in Ashingdon Road, Rochford at 11.45pm on Monday 27 August.

“On arrival, crews advised that the vehicle, which had left the roadway following a road traffic collision, was on its side and was 100 per cent alight.

“Nearby trees had also ignited.

“Firefighters extinguished the fire by 12.30am.

“The cause has been recorded as accidental.”

After the blaze was fully extinguished, the vehicle was recovered and removed from the side of Ashingdon Road.

The fire crews departed and the incident was left in officers’ hands.
