YOUNGSTERS are celebrating after completing a citizen programme.

A total of 11 young people from Castle Point have completed a three week National Citizenship Programme and raised hundreds of pounds for a food bank.

As part of this they did a social action week which involves completing a community project.

The Canvey NCS group decided to raise money and awareness of the food bank scheme on Canvey.

The group particularly focused on raising awareness of families who struggle to feed their children during the long summer holidays.

Sainsbury’s and Knightswick Shopping Centre generously supported the project and a total of £335 was raised in three days through bake sales and a car wash.

The young people are keeping people aware of the food bank project by regularly using social media to highlight the needs and issues.

The group is planning another cake sale later in the year.

A presentation was made to Philip Hendy of the Salvation Army who runs the scheme on Canvey and the Castle Point area.
