A dual carriageway has closed in both directions following a serious crash.

The A127 has been fully shut down by Essex Police after a crash involving a cyclist and a van near to the Dick Turpin pub in Wickford.

The road has been shut down since around 8.15am and traffic is at a complete standstill as a result.

Road closures currently in place between the junction with A132 at Nevendon and the A1245 at the Fairglen Interchange.

Police are still at the scene, with vehicles blocking off all entrances onto the road.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called just before 8am today, Sunday September 2, with reports a cyclist and a van were in collision on the Southend-bound carriageway.

"The road is currently closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

"Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

"Witnesses or anyone who captured dash cam footage are asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01245 240590 or email CollisionAppeal@essex.pnn.police.uk"
