A man demanded cash from a man in the street while believed to be armed with a knife.
The attempted robbery took place in Broadmayne, Basildon at around 10.30pm on Monday September 3.
A man was approached by the suspect who then showed him what has been described as the handle of a knife and demanded cash.
The victim then ran off and called police.
Police attended and searched the area but were unable to find the man described.
The victim described the man as being black, around 5ft 7ins, of a medium build, aged in his late teens and wore a black bandana on his head, a white coat or t-shirt and jeans.
