RESIDENTS flocked to the coast for the Leigh Regatta to enjoy the activities on and off the water.
The event was hosted by the Leigh Lions Club in conjunction with the 3rd Chalkwell Bay and 4th/6th Leigh Sea Scouts.
The scouts ran sailing races, tug of war and sedan chair races on the beach while younger children listened to June Wells’ stories and enjoyed traditional Punch and Judy shows.
A spokesman for the event said: “The sun smiled down on Old Leigh and helped to make this year’s Old Leigh Regatta one of the best ever.
“In all, there were five stages featuring the best bands, dancers, and singers that Essex has to offer and the entertainment culminated in a joint shanty extravaganza.”
The pubs in the centre of the town, including the Crooked Billet, Ye Old Smack Inn and The Peterboat, provided DJs and live music.
Other entertainment included a pirate-themed competition.
Visitors said it was a very enjoyable day.
Jenny Gernon, 40, from Benfleet said: “I thoroughly enjoyed Leigh Regatta.
“The sun was smiling on a fantastic afternoon of music and dancing and of course boats.
“Long may this community event continue.”
The event was held on Saturday and Sunday on the sea and on the shore.
