A TEENAGER who beat up a new found friend during an intimate encounter on New Year’s Day has avoided jail.

Blu Andrew has been ordered to get help to control his violent urges after leaving his victim with a severely broken jaw during the unprovoked attack in a Basildon alleyway.

The 19-year-old, of West End, Camden, bumped into a fellow partygoer after they left their respective New Year’s Eve celebrations.

After enjoying some consensual time together Andrew hit the victim in the face twice leaving them with metal plates in their jaw which will never be properly fixed.

The court heard the victim has been left feeling unable to go out at night and always looking over their shoulder following the attack.

DNA on the victim’s jacket led to Andrew being identified and he was arrested and charged with one count of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm, which he admitted.

Sentencing Andrew at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, judge Samantha Leigh, said: “You have to come to terms with whatever sexuality one way or another because that’s clearly a source of how this offending started.

“My view is that the sentence to be imposed on you to give maximum impact in relation to working with you and ensuring nothing like this ever happens again is going to be a probation order for three years.”

Judge Leigh sentenced Andrew to the long term community order with a number of requirements.

This includes 90 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement and 250 hours of unpaid work. She added: “The force with which you hit him, as you understand, caused severe injuries to his jaw and he is still having difficulties eating.

“The pre-sentence report talks about the difficulties you have faced.

“It also talks about the steps you have taken to ensure you don’t go down the route of custody and repeat offending.

“You are clearly very confused about your sexuality and there’s nothing wrong with that but that is what is the cause of this offence and that’s why work needs to be done with you.”
