FURIOUS residents have protested at a car park following 'unfair fines.'

The event was held at Westgate Car Park, Roundacre, Basildon from noon today.

More than twenty people joined together for the protest.

They claim they are fined as payment machines and systems are faulty.

David Dadds, mayor Basildon suggested the residents joined together and informed people about the issues.

A Facebook group was set up for people angry at Westgate Shopping Centre’s parking rules.

The group already has more than 2,000 members with 300 posts angry at Smart Parking fines.

Taxi drivers also claim to be fined for dropping off customers.

Mark Waller, 64, from the Basildon Borough Hackney Carriage Association said he is concerned about this.

The Echo has made various attempts to contact Smart Parking for comment.
