A cinema is inviting hundreds of dancers to perform a classic in Guinness World Record attempt.

Cineworld in Basildon's Festival Leisure Park is attempting to break the world record for the number of people dancing to the 1970s dance song, Oops Upside Your Head by The Gap Band.

The attempt will take place on Sunday October 7, with the cinema planning on topping the current record, which saw 333 people take part in May 2018.

A £1 donation will be made to the cinema's charity partner, Children In Need for each person to take part in the attempt.

The event will be a part of a series of activities that will be ran by Cineworld and Festival Leisure.

Matthew Chambers, centre manager at Festival Leisure Park, said: “We’re thrilled to be supporting Cineworld in their attempt to break a Guinness World Record for the number of people dancing to Oops upside Your Head.

"It’s great to be able to involve the local community in such a great event and we’re looking forward seeing both our existing visitors and new for some dancing fun.”

Phil Pierce, manager at Cineworld Basildon added: “We’re excited to be hosting our first ever Guinness World Record attempt and we’re calling out for as many people as possible to pop down to Cineworld to come and support us in this fantastically fun challenge.”
