The junction of Priory Crescent and Eastern Avenue is closed for at least ten days due to major roadworks.
Southend Council has announced the closure which will take place from today.
The council is warning the road could be closed for up to 21 days, although it is expected the work will take ten days.
The emergency works are for immediate investigation into a possible collapsed foul sewer line.
Traffic is already building in the area.
