SCHOOL pupils enjoyed learning about different jobs at a careers day.

The youngsters at Phoenix Primary School, in Leinster Road, Basildon, who are in Year Five and Six, heard from a variety of representatives from different professions, including a police officer, a nurse and university student.

The students were encouraged to see how working hard at school now will help them in the future.

Some of the activities they got to participate in included the children trying on police uniforms, a nurse demonstrating bandaging, finger printing and a talk about university life.

Some of the representatives on the day included Emma Watson, a University of Surrey student, Gemma Kirk a 999 call handler, and Brian Taylor, a retired homicide detective.

Amanda Taylor, school higher level teaching assistant and nursery and vocational visit leader said it was a highly successful event.

She said: “It was a very positive day and a joy to see the children buzzing about all the opportunities that are available to them in the world of work and the wider community.”
