A driver who tested positive for cocaine and cannabis has been jailed for eight weeks.

Danny Tuppein, 26, was stopped in Chalkwell Avenue, Westcliff when officers became suspicious of a grey Ford Focus.

The officers pulled over the car, driven by Tuppein, and tested it with a drug swipe which tested positive for the Class B drug cannabis and the Class A drug cocaine.

Tuppein was arrested and taken to Basildon police station.

He provided two samples of blood which further tested positive for cannabis.

He was presented at Southend Magistrates' Court on Thursday September 27, where he admitted to driving whilst under the influence of drugs.

Tuppein was jailed for eight weeks, banned from driving for three years and fined £200.

A spokesman for the Southend Operation Raptor team, said: “Tuppein had no regard for the safety of himself or other road users when he got behind the wheel of a car whilst under the influence of cannabis.

“Fortunately he was spotted and pulled over and promptly taken into custody.

“We will not tolerate anyone getting behind the wheel of any vehicle whilst under the influence of drink or drugs and we will continue to target those reckless individuals who do so.”
